WE LAND FOR TWO STOP-OVER ALONG THE WAY
Go exploring – Nothing beats getting your feet on the ground and feel what Iceland is about.
By Superjeep only accessible during the summertime the remote wilderness of the Highlands are the essence of Iceland. Fly through the stunning valleys, over vast lava fields, mountains, geothermal active areas and glaciers.
THE HIGHLANDS ARE WHAT YOU CAME FOR – PERIOD!
There are so many waterfalls in the Skoga River valley that we didn”t even start counting them. An estimate is about 25 and this number is not counting the mighty Skógáfoss – at least 5 of them drop 30 meters. Get your cameras at a ready!
The VEIÐIVÖTN lake area is made up of about 50 small lakes of different sizes, most of them are crater lakes. Most of the lakes are fed and discharged underground through the lava fields as the are very permeable. The craters and lakes lie in two rows which makes the vista even more unique and stunning – perfect green and blue surfaces
Come face to face with the mighty Hekla – one of Icelands most active volcanos – over 20 eruptions have occurred in and around the volcano since 874.
During the middle ages we Europeans called the volcano the “Gateway to HELL” – who knows.
BOOK YOUR HELI-TOUR
We lift off and start tracking up the Hóltsárgil canyon with its’ impressive waterfall until we reach the rim of the Eyjafjallajökull glacier.
Dropping back down to sea level we pass our Secret Waterfall – a whopper with height of about 50 to 60 m in the Kaldaklifsár canyon. Following the Skógá-Rriver and passing around 20 waterfalls we reach Móði and Magni – volcanoes formed during the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption.
We carry on to the site of one of the biggest bangs in the last 5000 years – a massive volcanic fissure formed around the year 934 home to the majestic waterfalls Eldgjá and Ófærufoss. A bit further down we find the 50 meter high Ófærufoss.
Turning south again we fly over the lava fields of the mighty Hekla and land at the Tindafjallajökull glacier with its hot-springs, beautiful valleys, and rhyolite rock formations. Here we will have a bite to eat – yes it is a BBQ – and then carry on back to base.
